Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

Happy New Year!
Make this year a year of taking baby steps. Baby steps towards any goal that you have, whether if be for your spirit, health, family, friends, finances or creativity. The way to begin a journey of 1000 miles is to start with the first step. Any goal when broken down into mini steps is achievable. Bonne Chance!
Lessons from a three-year-old!
My grandson has taught me three lessons lately.
Autism and the MMR Vaccine:
Dr. Andrew Wakefield and Dr. Bernard Rimland are MD’s active in the research of the safety of the MMR vaccine. According to them the most likely explanation for the current epidemic of Autism and ADHD is the combined MM in the MMR.
In a lecture given by Dr. Wakefield last year on vaccinations and their safety he brings up several points:
Safety precautions you can take now:
Dr. Andrew Wakefield MD has his paper published in the Journal of Adverse Drug Reactions entitled "Measles mumps rubella vaccine: Through a glass darkly". This will create a stir as it had supportive editorial review. Hopefully we will see the MMR in its combined form withdrawn soon and separate vaccines in their place. In a study of 500 surgery patients researchers found that increasing the concentration of inhaled oxygen from 30- 80% during surgery and for two hours afterwards cut the infection rate in half! The additional oxygen appears to enhance the immune function in ways not yet determined.John Hopkins Medical Letter Health After 50 July 2000
Ed: the recent news told of the new oxygen service available at the Calgary airport to help passengers fighting jet lag is encouraging. I think this treatment will be found to help more than just jet lag. I suggest taking extra anti-oxidants pre and post surgery and during and after flights such as our Oxyguard Forte will go along way to preventing jet lag, clots forming and infections.
Mammograms: Do we need them?
The University of Toronto released the results of a study indicating that mammograms have no benefit to women between the ages of 50-59. For an information package on adverse effects of mammogram use over several years contact HANS.

East Indian Curried Vegetables with Chickpeas
|
1 Cauliflower, cubed |
1 Tbs. Coconut Butter |
1 can Coconut Milk |
|
1.5 # Potatoes, cubed |
1 cup Onions, diced |
2 cups Spinach, chopped |
|
1 cup frozen peas |
1-3 Tbs. Curry Paste, mild-hot |
1/2-1 can Chickpeas, drained |
Scrub the potatoes, rinse the cauliflower and trim away any blemished areas. Cut into bite-size cubes and place into a steamer basket. Fill the bottom of steamer with two inches of water and set to boil over high heat. Once boiling, lower heat to high simmer and allow to cook for 12-15 minutes. Once veggies are tender, remove steamer from heat and place into kitchen sink. Rinse with cold water (blanche) for a few minutes until cooked vegetables are cooled down. This will slow down the cooking process.
While vegetables are steaming, melt coconut butter over medium-high heat in a frying pan. Add the onions to the pan once butter is hot. Sauté until golden, stir in the curry paste and lower heat to a simmer. Pour in the coconut milk and allow sauce to reduce over very low heat for 10-12 minutes. Once sauce is thickened somewhat, remove pan from heat, stir in the chopped spinach and peas cover with fitted lid and allow to stand for a few minutes. The heat from the sauce will wilt the spinach without overcooking it.
Once you are ready to assemble the meal, fold the curried sauce into the steamed vegetables add the chickpeas and serve hot. Best served with fragrant, organic brown basmati rice. This recipe makes 6-8 servings. Any leftovers will freeze well in sealed containers. To reheat, place into a casserole dish with 2-3 Tbs. of water and transfer into a 250-degree oven for 18-20 minutes until evenly warmed through. Garnish with sesame seeds or chopped cilantro.

We notice that folks are still showing up at the office on Mondays when we are closed. Perhaps if we said "Closed Mondays" instead of our office hours that would help!
I am offering a free Candida test for anyone. It takes less than five minutes. If you want to see what your score is give Hayley a call. We do this between our longer appointments.
